after five days of ocean air
bare-bodied strangers and sticky sand feet,
tossing and rolling through the pacific surf,
this desert is just a familiar hell.
saltwater runs in my blood,
but here i am buried
in sand.
i am part desert,
part ocean dweller.
trapped by circumstance
in the town of the resurrected firebird.
my feet may be in the desert
but my heart is in the ocean.
